Coronary stenting is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat narrowed or blocked coronary arteries and improve blood flow to the heart muscle. It is usually performed as part of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), often following balloon angioplasty, to help restore and maintain adequate blood flow through the affected artery.
A coronary artery stent is a small, expandable mesh tube that is placed inside a narrowed or blocked coronary artery. Once positioned, the stent expands and presses against the artery wall, helping to keep the artery open and maintain blood flow. In most cases, stenting is performed during the same procedure as angioplasty.
