Venous Ultrasound/Testing for Venous Disease

An ultrasound procedure used to detect blood clots, varicose veins, and other venous circulation issues.

Venous Ultrasound

A venous ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic test that uses sound waves to create detailed images of the veins, most commonly in the legs. This test helps healthcare providers evaluate blood flow and identify issues such as blockages, blood clots, or valve dysfunction.

Why is Venous Ultrasound Testing important?

Venous ultrasound is a vital tool in diagnosing and managing various vascular conditions. If you experience symptoms such as leg swelling, pain, or visible vein changes, this test can help pinpoint the cause and guide you about the next appropriate treatment.

It is commonly used to detect conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), chronic venous insufficiency, and varicose veins. Early diagnosis is key to preventing complications and maintaining healthy circulation.

How does it work?

During the procedure, a technician applies a special gel to the skin and moves a handheld device, called a transducer over the area being examined. The transducer sends sound waves into the body which bounce off the veins and create images.

As this test does not use radiation, it is a safe and painless option for patients of all ages. The detailed images provide information about vein health, helping doctors make accurate diagnoses and determine the best course of treatment.
